Aranga beach sits at the base of the Manganui Bluff which is a large rocky outcrop marking the end of Ripiro Beach (the longest driveable beach in the country). Mussels can be found at the base of the bluff at low tide, and from this point miles of beautiful clean sand beach extend southward towards Pouto Point. We don't advise you swim here as the waters are rough and there are no lifeguard services, but a river inlet about 1km down the beach is a great place for paddling or a short swim in summer months. Surf casting is popular with the locals here, and it is a great place to walk your dog. For a stunning view of the beach climb Manganui Bluff - there is a well marked DOC track to the summit (about 1.5 hours return) which starts from the car park area at the end of the Aranga Beach Coast Road. For those not inclined to do the full walk, its well worth a 5 minute climb up the first section to soak up the amazing views down the beach
